Thunder In The Cascadesby Luuezz on 2009-07-28 05:55:58 Remove Preview 15 Th Annual Home Sweet Home 15 Th Annual Thunder In The Cascades 09 ![]() The Cascades has always been a dam good biker party in the past since it started at Cascade Park. However, seems that a few upscale citizens didn't take well to the true biker lifestyle parties back then and Thunder In The Cascades Rally was soon givin the steel toe boot from having the event next year at the amusement park. I suppose it was too much amusement for them snobs to handle. As the two roads diverged in a fork Thunder In The Cascades took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference bringing us to Coppers Lake. There is No substitute for "Thunder In The Cascades Motorcycle Rally" to be held anywhere other than Copper's Lake located in Slippery Rock, corner of 422W / 79N just east of New Castle, Pa. For the past 5 yrs, Thunder In The Cascades was also given that very same steel toe boot to leave Copper's Lake. Due to the rowdiness of the biker lifestyle, the continuous burnouts, ![]() ![]() ![]() drag racing and drunks being stupid. Hells bells... isn't that what happens when you add alcohol to a ol'biker? ![]() Some would like to call it the adrenalin of speed to see who's bike is the fastest on a straight away and some just plain kickin the shit from the everyday grind, back then the rebellion bikers had the attitude of "so what if you don't like it".... ![]() but times have been changing with this new era of biker enthusiasts; the true old school biker parties are being forced to be handcuffed or thrown out! The real biker lifestyle has become a patina of history and tradition at these rally's. ![]() However you can still find the ol'school biker parties just as they were in the 70's, they still exist, you just need to find different friends to keep it alive. Today's rallies are more like a family reunion than a biker party as I know it, too many rules. Back then the only rule to ones existence was RESPECT or Die. A step outside of the Cascades, the rally was moved to New Castle Fairgrounds. A rapid decline in the attendance of bikers dropped. The Fairgrounds had no feeling of nature, no outdoorsy scenes, no 10 acre lake, no 500 acres of paved roads around a one mile lake and no shaded dense trees to pitch a tent under and no 200 acres of primitive camping. There was no peace and tranquility as ones sits around the fire with thoughts of always prompts the same refrain: "Why don't I do this more often?" ![]() ![]() Instead the New Castle Fairgrounds was in a wide open flat lot with no trees for sun comfort, no green grass, no nothing.... You were just plopped there with the horse stables, kicked out again....this is starting to sound like the coming home in the morning and the locks have been changed. There was negotiations about coming back to Coopers Lake in the brew. Everyone was holding their breath and soon the news hit the stands. Their was one speculation to coming back to Coppers Lake. They could only sell 3,000 tickets to keep the crowd controlled. There was no bikes permitted to park on the main stream venue, no burnouts, no drag racing in the park. ![]() A full measure of bike shows, burn -out pits, two wet t/shirts contests, all sex mud wrestling, ![]() tattoo contests, continuous live bands, bike field games, the longest slip and slid, lot's of vendor's and a food court brought the crowds back. ![]() And let's not forget the boxed refrigerated tractor trailer that had plenty of beer taps for 4 endless days of free beer draws included in one price. This is what makes this rally stand out from all the rest. You pay $40.00 a ticket, with this you get 4 days of camping, all entertainment and free beer 24 hrs a day. Now that's a deal that can't be beat. ![]() Turns out all 3,000 tickets were sold out on-line. No tickets were sold at the gate. This was a decision to cut down on the motorized traffic within the campground and increase safety. No one wants their weekend ruined by an accident or injury. ![]() The weatherman brought good weather and the bikers buzzed with activity. It was a good time to catch up and reminisce with your buddies or meet new ones. There was plenty of scheduled events around the clock for four days to keep you entertained. The bike show had 16 classes for show entries and plenty of trophies were on stage and everyone was having a good time! The party is always good but the best part is the people. The Cascades continues to be a favorite of mine. ![]() Sunday Morning as everyone was packing up after 4 days of partying, I found her tucked away....
