Thunder in the Cascades

Thunder in the Cascades

Where were you July 3-6th, 2008? As I was sittin on a bench the 5th listening to the band ~ Intent, A biker came over and sat down beside me and started up conservation. He asked me "What is your favorite bike event in Pa that you like?" A quick response was THUNDER IN THE CASCADES I answered.

I have been riding to this Bike Rally since 2000 and have met many wonderful friends from here. Thunder In The Cascades is like going to a family reunion. You get to see old friends & meet new friends. Everyone I saw as I walked down the rows and rows of campgrounds, they were cooking out, inviting people that they had never met to join them, sharing their food with me, offering me water as I took their picture. These were strangers who soon became my new friends for a fun & exciting weekend!

Thunder In The Cascades celebrated it's 14 season with tons of Rumble on Midway with smoke'n bikes & babes. "You Don't Want to Miss this Event". Thunder In The Cascades started 14 yrs ago as a Hot Air Balloon Show. All walks of people had came along with about 100 motorcycles rode to the show. A spin off on motorcycles came into conservation and the following year they had their 1st Bikes, Balloons & Boots Rally located at Cascade Park, Pa. The Rally grew rather quickly and the wild parties were as most of us from Ol Skool, our way of life.

13 yrs ago rallies were really wild & crazy and you always........had a great time, whether you remembered it or not was another story, however, to me the wilder they are the more fun I have! And Thunder In The Cascades still lives up to this rule today. Over the 5 yrs that they were in Cascades Park the City was taking notice to the wild behavior that all that attended were having. Shaking their heads...the grand finale came when the cruiser / City Police would come & patrol the bike rally event on night. A young girl had jumped on top of the Cruiser naked & had spread her legs across the hood and between her legs it read Call 911. LOL. Cameras were snapping & the photos spread to the City and reached high end offices. No body thought it was funny, awe come on...what happened to the good ol' days? Any way the Mayors wife seen pictures & said it wasn't appropriate in the City. So they got thrown out of Cascade Park and moved to Cooper's Lake which was a really great place to have a rally at!

Coppers Lake was a park anyone would fall in love with, it was the premaddona of campgrounds. There were green lush hills and valleys, a paved road that was winding & twisty, up and down the hill sides, all kinds of cubby holes, to have some privacy, in trees tucked in for your tents. It doesn't get any better than this park, hot showers, restrooms, a lg stage area, a general store that nearly anything you might have forgot down to rubbers.

The entire park was paved and the cleanness was a A+. It was beautiful to see all the colorful tents along hillsides and everyone once again having a time to remember. Coopers lake unfortunately came to an end after 5 yrs of being there as the parties grew wilder & the burn outs weren't confined to just the burn out pit. The burn outs continued up at the Midway in spite of being told that NO BURNOUTS Were Allowed up in that area.

Soon Coppers Lake were looking at their end of the liability with the burn outs and the danger with the thick crowds of people and motorcycles parked everywhere, they too said it's was time for Bob MrCrackin and John Morgan to move the rally somewhere else.

The following year it was moved to Lawerance County Fairgrounds, in New Castle. They have been here for 3yrs. The rally is spread out over the fairgrounds and if you get there early on Thursday you can find a space to set your tent up in a barn, under many rows of horse stalls, along the fence rail or in the open field. Not to worry about the sun waking you up in the open field in the morning, no one gets any sleep while your here!
