"Orange Sunshine"
One Bitchin' Bobber
by Rick Valdez Long Beach, CA
This bike was bought as a basket case and was to be a project.
This was a project that took 1 year to complete on weekends and after work. I basically built the bike and welded all brackets in place with the help of master welder Mark Zachau and myself. The bike was then disassembled and sent to the sand blaster. It was primed right away, block sanded several times, re-primed and made ready for paint.
The motor is a S&S 96 ci. Frame is paucho ridged straight leg frame all stock dimensions, tranny was put together by Fast Eddie in Bellflower CA. Front end is stock Harley wide glide with 16 in. apes, exhaust pipes and rear fender came from WCC, open belt drive is 3 in. BDL, tanks are Harley, forward controls are late model Harley, rear wheel is 200, tires are Avon, hand carved leather seat is from Anvil Customs, carb is S&S also.
I've been painting choppers for 37 years so this is my part. It is covered in HOK tangerine pearl and flames are tangerine candy over silver flake, lots of clear and hand striped in green 1 shot.
I sent parts to Mando Dorame in Yucca Valley Ca. for chrome, and started assembly. Pete Elliot of Lakewood Ca. helped with the wiring and it is hidden inside the frame. I used all stainless hardware and allen heads. The bike has electronic ignition and fired up first try....... awesome! It's a beauty. Was a fun project and really cool to ride. Cant wait to do another.
This bike is registered as a 2007 special construction.
I bought my first Harley at age 22 in 1971 and have been customizing and riding ever since.

Please check out my open letter to John and Ken of KFI AM 640. They could possibly be allies against the newly proposed motorcycle smog checks in California. I'll let you know if anything comes of it.
